In an earlier post, I revealed my unfortunate time spent being complacent and how, looking back, I wish I wouldn’t have wasted all that time.

Regardless of the past and it’s undefeated record on not being changed, I was able to make some adjustments in my life to help move me forward.

One of the ways that I’ve used for learning has been through podcasts.

If you’re not familiar with what those are, essentially, they are audio files you can stream or download via a computer, tablet, or smartphone app covering a very wide range of topics.

I personally have an Android device, so I don’t access them through iTunes.

The apps I have tried and would recommend are – BeyondPod (free) and Pocket Casts ($3.99). There are others available if you simply search for ‘podcast app’ on either Apple or Android devices.

Today, I thought I’d share some of the ones that I’ve used to help me in different areas of life: leadership, creativity, technology, business, etc.

If you haven’t run across these before, then maybe this introduction will spark an idea for you to explore some that I list or seek out your own that can be beneficial to where you are and what you are trying to accomplish.

The absolute must have in your list and why I very intentionally listed it first. Michael Hyatt brings years of leadership experience coupled with a Christian perspective into practical, everyday action steps for each of us.

He’s very good about providing his material in list posts and for anyone who likes to take notes or thrives on lists to help you with your tasks, you’ll appreciate this.

In addition to leadership advice, he also provides valuable advice on blogging, writing, social media, and technology. This is a well-rounded source to draw from, so don’t wait, subscribe to his podcast today.

This Is Your Life - Michael Hyatt

Jeff is a writer and most of his podcasts are geared towards writing. However, like Michael Hyatt, is good about providing material on practical items to help you through your journey of being a creative.

You will also find valuable insights into blogging, podcasting, and being a better all-around writer. He’s also an easy listen because he lets his personality into his podcasts which makes it easier to connect with him.

The Portfolio Life - Jeff Goins

I have been soaking up everything I can from Darren because his main focus is on blogging and the value you can have through that avenue.

If you’re looking for some advice, tips, etc. on being a better blogger, you’ll enjoy this podcast. Plus, a good portion of them are under 20 minutes.

Problogger - Darren Rowse

Amy has a background in social media marketing and gives great insights into the nuances of a lot of social media sites for anyone building their brand.

She’s also great at course creation and webinars, so if you’re looking to get into those areas, she has some great resources to draw from.

Online Marketing Made Easy - Amy Porterfield

Pat was one of the first podcasts I began listening to in addition to Michael Hyatt. His show introduces you to a plethora of ideas and avenues of passive income that are possible today.

One of the things I really enjoy is his income reports that he posts monthly. Not only is he telling you that it’s possible to achieve your dreams and have a successful online business, but he shows you the intimate details of his finances as proof.

SPI - Pat Flynn

Lewis’ story from tragedy to nothing to success is inspiring. He’s a very vulnerable guy who oozes with positivity and optimism.

He has evolved his podcast where he also provides the video copy as well as he interviews interesting guests from a wide range of subjects, but mostly coming back to his purpose – personal triumphs that lead to greatness.

The School of Greatness - Lewis Howes

Brett’s podcast deals with exactly what it says – manliness. He covers so many topics pertaining to men, I wouldn’t have space to list them all.

I don’t listen to his as much as I’d like because there aren’t enough hours in the day, but when I do have a chance, I enjoy the subject matter.

The Art of Manliness - Brett McKay

There are several others that I have listened to on and off through the years, but most of the time, this is my go-to list when I’m looking for something related to the subjects I listed above.

I typically listen to these when I’m at the gym, working on something time-consuming at work, or during my commute.

While they can be easily digestible, 30-45 minutes normally, you may be tempted to binge some episodes. I don’t recommend doing so because one can easily get caught up consuming too much, and not putting the takeaways into practice. A good idea would be 1-2 per day max in my opinion.

If you haven’t begun listening to podcasts, then I encourage you to do so if you’re serious about leaving the “what if” behind in your life.

I’d love to hear from you about whether or not you listen to podcasts and what recommendations you have! Comment below and share!
