I heard someone ask this question recently – “What might you want to do someday as a result of today?”

I could answer the first part, what I want to do SOMEDAY, with a lot of big dreams and desires.

Someday, I want to skydive.

Someday, I want to hunt bears in Alaska.

Someday, I want to fly in a hot air balloon.

Someday, I want to see lives changed because of some contribution I made.

How can I make those and other big dreams happen because of something I did today?

It’s easy to sit and dream and ponder what certain experiences would be like that would enhance my life or the lives of others.

But if I leave everything in the abstract and don’t mark them down as possibilities, I’ll mismanage today.

Who says those things I want to do are out of reach?

Who says the things you dream of are only meant to be a daydream and they could never happen?

I certainly don’t look at the list of things I want to do in my life as unattainable.

However, if I don’t live intentionally with those in mind, and as a focus of each day’s progress, they will be.

See, that’s what progress and movement towards big goals are all about.

It’s not about immediate reward today. It’s about how years of doing the small things day in and day out accumulate into getting me to my ultimate goal and dream.

We’re too often seeking the immediate satisfaction of our efforts and wanting that to be translated into an enormous reward.

It doesn’t work like that.

To achieve any large goal, you’re going to be required to sacrifice, provide maximum effort, invest, and have a purposeful intentionality.

We start with the end in mind as Stephen Covey tells us in his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.

Then we map out our way towards that end.

That map that contains small, daily rituals and habits will lead us to where we want to go if we stay the course.

Where do you want to go?

What do YOU want to do someday?

Are you doing what needs to be done TODAY to see it happen?

If you leave the “what if” behind, you can.

What do you want to do? How can I help make that happen?
